♠ Basics Name: Violet Parr Age: 15 Gender: Female Movies/Series: The Incredibles Year or position: High School Freshman Non/Speaking Animal/Companion (is applicable): None Powers (if applicable): As a super, Violet does indeed have powers. Her own unique combination includes both creating force fields and invisibility. The force field is described as a shield of psionic energy that Violet manipulates around herself. The field itself is virtually impenetrable as long as she can keep it up. Under extreme pressures, both mental and physical, Violet has shown to have troubles both creating the fields as well as maintaining them. As her control of this particular power grew, she was also able to somewhat control the shape and size of these fields, though it almost always took on a spherical form; even when it wasn’t a 3 dimensional shape, but a wall, it was somewhat curved. During intense moments of battle when she conjures it, perhaps as a sort of survival instinct, it always covers her and whoever she’s trying to protect completely. This power is closely connected with her confidence level; the better she feels about herself and her powers, the easier it is to tap into. Violet has most control over her invisibility, and is able to isolate parts of her body and render them invisible, as well as her entire body as a whole. She cannot cause other objects or people to turn invisible, and as such, unless the clothes are specifically created to disappear with her, they will remain visible. This power doesn’t seem to tire her at all, and can probably be in use for an indefinite amount of time; it was revealed in the original story board that she was able to use this ability since she was a small baby, making it very likely that invisibility has been a very natural and easy thing for her to control. Emotions do play a role in when exactly she turns invisible, especially if she’s embarrassed or angry (as seen with the dinner scene and her rumble with Dash, she briefly turns invisible, and with Tony when she‘s too giddy and flustered to let him see her). That being said, it is still likely that it is purposefully executed, not a instinctive and spontaneous invisibility. She cannot use both abilities at the same time. ♠ In-Depth: Personality: Violet is at an impasse in this stage of her life, caught between childhood and womanhood. There’s a line in a deleted scene that went, “I’m gangly, and growing ganglier. I have no curves, my friends are dorkier than I am, and I can’t say anything right but my brain won’t shut up!” She is the epitome of awkward, hiding behind her hair when she feels insecure (which was every day before she was “allowed” to use her powers), being thin to the point of having a boyish figure, and speaking with a mild lisp. While she has gotten over her insecurities somewhat, they do rear their ugly heads every now and then, especially since the confidence she harbored at the end of the movie has been diminished in the AU. Perhaps derived from her lack of confidence and the need to feel better about herself, Violet has developed a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor. While she often has difficulty expressing her thoughts and feelings properly, she’s not afraid to speak her mind to those she’s close with (usually it’s only her family). Those close to her often have to deal with her sarcasm the most, as she’s usually pretty meek with strangers and is even reserved with certain friends (especially those of the family). She can be pretty bashful at times, especially around people she admires (usually peers). Which, in turn, plays off her awkwardness. At other times though, she can be snarky, though she often lacks the authority (even if it’s given to her) or the ability to take command to back her attitude up. However, that’s not to say she’s completely outspoken and doesn’t hold her tongue. She just typically only does so when she wants to keep to herself (again, usually when her confidence isn‘t doing so hot). Unlike her parents (and even sometimes Dash), Violet panics very easily. Even in the midst of battle, she’s the first, if not the only one to scream in terror, freaking out instead of getting out of harm’s way, at least not until the last second. This is also evident in her own personal fighting style (or arguably, lack thereof), in which defense trumps offense and in which being in the moment trumps thinking ahead. In all fairness, though, her powers are not meant for attacking, but rather, defense; it makes no sense for her to be the go-getter when she has nothing to “go-get” with. Despite their differences and the challenges they’ve faced internally, Violet really does care for and loves her family. Even with a lack of proper control over her powers and doubts in her heart, she was willing to risk life and limb for them. She and Dash, as siblings, are particularly close, which is probably why they fight and bicker over everything. They know the most about each other and their likes and dislikes, though that knowledge is usually used against one another in their little sibling feuds. However, throughout the movie, if Violet’s not fighting with her entire family as a solid unit, she’s always by Dash’s side. Even though she’s the bossy big sister and he’s the annoying little brother, they have a very important bond, which, as her confidence level grew, became much more outwardly (and perhaps even inwardly) pleasant. As a result of having him for a brother, she has a tolerance for “annoying”, though her fuse is short once it is lit. While she’s no genius, Violet is very bright and clever. She does pretty well in scholastics and tends to hang out with the nerds (such as Kari). When given the opportunity, she does show her logic skills, from trying out her force field to see if it would disrupt the energy binding her family in Syndrome’s “cuffs”, to stating to use the previous coordinates from the last rocket launch. But she demonstrates this ability better when she has time to think. Underneath it all, underneath her powers, Violet’s still very much a regular teenager. She likes music, she likes to read magazines (the typical teen girly ones, at that), and even at the end of the movie, she was shown to enjoy sporting events and conversation (and with her possibly-new wardrobe, maybe even shopping to some degree?). However, she was so stuck up over her powers (from which her lack of confidence is stemmed from), she couldn’t see that she wasn’t that terribly different from any other kid outside of her genes. Canon Background: Here~ AU Background: After the defeat of the Omnidroid and Syndrome, Violet returned to a normal life. Well, most of the time, anyway. Things had been looking up for her; after their family’s first adventure -and first true bonding experience together, she had become comfortable in her own skin for the first time since she was small. With her hair pulled back in a headband, her posture confident, and her clothes peppy, she even managed to get the attention of Tony Rydinger, her crush. Shortly thereafter, they began to date. Life went on, though it was a precarious balancing act trying to live a “normal” life, keeping up with a normal relationship, and taking care of the responsibilities of being a superhero. However, due to the return of supers and their being in the spotlight and welcomed (by most), the villains had to become craftier once more, and super villains began to pour out of the woodwork. The Incredibles had to up their game to stay on top of the growing threats; Bob was able to train himself to lift even greater strengths and improved in his swiftness and reaction time, Helen once more returned to the flexibility and litheness of her youth, Dash continued to break his records for speed, and even Jack-Jack had learned to shift into all his different forms on command. The only one who didn’t improve? Violet. She was stuck at the same power level she had reached on the island. The result of this imbalance in the family unit? Mission after mission, mistakes were made. The person who made them was none other than Violet. As time went on, she screwed up more and more, unable to keep up in the powers department, jeopardizing her own life, her family members’ lives, and the lives of the innocent. Bob was consistently disappointed, Dash made sure to never let her live it down, and while Helen tried her best to support the dark haired teen, she couldn’t help but press the girl to train and try harder even when it was evident Violet couldn‘t do any more to improve. However, their insistences and pushing didn’t yield any results. As the months passed, Violet’s confidence in herself began to diminish, and so did Tony’s patience with her. Being late to dates, leaving them early, calling them off at the last minute, and even not showing up at all at had taken its toll on their relationship. He understood that she had responsibilities (“baby sitting Jack-Jack“ was her typical excuse), but he also couldn’t continue such a dysfunctional relationship with a girlfriend that was hardly around. Of course, Violet understood and agreed -albeit with a heavy heart- that they should call it off altogether. Feeling worse than she had in months (she believed herself to be just as useless in a normal life as she was as a super), she returned one day from school, brought in the mail, and… noticed one of the envelopes was addressed to her. That in itself was odd. She never got any personal mail unless it was the holiday season. Opening it, she found an invitation to Walt Disney Academy. She recalled the name from the news over the radio; it was a place dedicated to stopping the Black Mist. With that horrible Mist traveling closer and closer to Middle America every day, and with her “career” as a super going badly, she made her decision. Staying and continuing to fight alongside her parents and brothers would surely end in them getting hurt… or worse… due to her continuous mistakes. She was nothing but a burden. At least at the Academy, she could do some good and learn how to combat the Mist that her family would, no doubt, have to encounter again. With that goal in mind, she hid the invitation from her parents (after all, they would never let her go otherwise, or so she believed), skipped school, and instead boarded a bus and ferry for Walt Disney Academy. Appearance: Violet is slim, but naturally so. Unusual compared to the rest of her family (probably from genes skipping a generation), she has raven hair, though she does have her father's blue eyes. She's fairly pale skinned, with a round face, chubby cheeks, and thin lips. She's not very tall, according to her official bio, at 4'6" and 90 lbs. Depending on her confidence level, her posture varies. The less confident, the more she slouches and hides behind her hair, almost making herself as small as possible; conversely, when she's feeling better about herself, she stands up straight and looks straight ahead. Her wardrobe also varies on her mood (and whether she's needed as a super or not, obviously), wearing darker, blander, and baggier clothes when she's down, and vibrant, bright, well-fitting clothes when she's up. Greatest Fear: Losing her family… because she couldn’t pull through to save them. Currently, her family is the most important thing in her life; most of the supers have been killed off by Syndrome, their family friends are far and few between, and let’s face it, her school friends would probably suck at pulling through for her in the end. She’d be complete alone and on her own (emotionally and mentally as well) without anyone who’d actually care for her as a Parr, a girl, and a super. That’s not to mention how traumatizing it would be to lose all those people you hold closest to your heart. It’s actually this fear which has lead her to accept the Academy’s invitation.
